Where to Start Learning
These are the questions we field most often in the field, when we cannot give you a straight answer because we are holding a hose. Here is the written version.
Get Seasonal TipsDo you charge for these guides?
No. They are free because they keep us from repeating ourselves on every property visit, and because a homeowner who understands freeze-thaw drainage will get a better result out of the work we do. We would rather you be informed before you call.
How often should I actually do this maintenance?
The guides are organized by season and by checklist frequency — weekly, monthly, or annually. Follow the season that matches the task, not the one that matches your mood in February. The full year-round plan lives on the maintenance guides page.
Can I do these tasks myself, or do I need you?
Most of them, yes — they are written for a competent homeowner with basic tools. Each guide ends with a "when to call us" note so you know where the DIY line sits. Anything involving grading, drainage, structural walls, or gas-fired equipment is past that line.
What if a guide does not cover my situation?
Call. Idaho properties are full of edge cases — a north-facing slope, a stubborn clay pocket, a mature tree with a root plate nobody expected. If our written guidance does not fit what you are standing in front of, an actual conversation will sort it out in a few minutes.
Why do so many of these tasks say "call a professional"?
Because in this climate the failure modes are not obvious. A retaining wall that looks fine in June can be saturated behind the wall by February. A dethatch pass at the wrong time can set your lawn back a full season. We would rather you do the easy 80% yourself and let us handle the 20% that is genuinely risky.
Every guide here is written by our own crew from twenty years of work on North Idaho properties. If a guide does not cover your situation, call and ask.
