A well-lit exterior is one of the most effective home security measures available, and it doubles as the most dramatic curb-appeal enhancement you can make. LP designs systems where both benefits are achieved — not floodlights that create harsh glare, but layered lighting that extends the home's presence and beauty into the evening.

A full LP landscape lighting system typically draws 100–400 watts total — comparable to a few household light bulbs. Running cost for 8 hours per night, 365 days per year, is typically $15–$60 annually at North Idaho utility rates. The operational cost argument for landscape lighting is often a surprise to clients.

Lighting Design & Fixture Layout
LP begins every lighting project with a site walk at dusk, identifying the key design objectives: what needs to be visible at night, which architectural features deserve uplighting, where path lighting is needed for safety, and how the overall system should layer ambient, accent, and functional light. A fixture layout plan is produced before any wire is run.
Transformer Sizing & Control
The transformer is the heart of the low-voltage system — LP sizes transformers based on the total wattage load, future expansion needs, and the intended control method: mechanical timer, digital timer, photocell, or smart control (WiFi-enabled timer for app scheduling and remote control). LP uses commercial-grade transformers rated for outdoor installation.
Path & Walkway Lighting
LP installs path lights for driveways, walkways, garden paths, and entry approaches. Fixture selection considers mounting height (low mushroom style vs. taller bollard), beam spread, and color temperature. LP's default is 2700–3000K warm white — a color temperature that flatters landscaping and architecture without the cold clinical look of daylight-spectrum fixtures.
Uplighting & Architectural Accent
Uplighting trees and architectural features is the highest-impact application of landscape lighting. LP uses directional bullet and well lights to uplight specimen trees, focal shrubs, retaining walls, and home facades. LP angles fixtures at 30–45° to minimize glare and maximize the sculptural effect of accent lighting.
Step, Wall, and Hardscape Lighting
Integrated lighting in retaining walls, steps, patio edges, and deck rails provides both safety and ambiance. LP coordinates hardscape lighting installations with any masonry or deck work — conduit and wire runs are planned and installed during construction to avoid retrofitting through finished surfaces.
LED Fixture Specification & Efficiency
All LP landscape lighting installations use LED fixtures: 3–8 watt per fixture, rated for 50,000+ hours, IP65+ weather rating for North Idaho's rain and freeze cycles. LED landscape systems use a fraction of the energy of halogen systems and eliminate the frequent bulb replacement that made older low-voltage systems high-maintenance.
