Most North Idaho homeowners either hire a designer who hands off to a contractor, or hire a contractor who skips the design phase entirely. LP does both — a scaled site plan with a proper plant palette, followed by installation by the same crew that drew it. No gaps, no translator between the drawing and the ground.
We've been designing and installing landscapes across Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, and the greater Kootenai County area since 2005. That means two decades of knowing which plants actually survive our sub-alpine continental winters, which soils in this region need amendment, and where drainage problems hide on a typical lot before they become a soggy spring problem.

Design/Build Accountability
When the same company designs and installs, there's no finger-pointing between a designer and a separate contractor. LP owns the result from drawing to finished grade. If a design detail needs adjustment in the field, the crew that's building it makes the call — backed by the same team that drew the plan.
Plant Palette Built for Real Idaho Winters
LP's plant selections are tested against actual North Idaho winters — not just USDA zone charts. Our sub-alpine continental climate can deliver late freezes in May and hard frosts before October. We avoid plants that "should" survive Zone 5b on paper but consistently struggle in the Inland Northwest's specific temperature and moisture patterns.

A landscape design that ignores the patio edge, the top of the retaining wall, or the irrigation mainline creates problems later — mismatched elevations, plant beds that can't be maintained, zones that overwater half the bed and underwater the other half. LP designs the outdoor space as a whole system from the start.

Site Assessment & Consultation
LP visits the property before any design work begins. We assess soil type, drainage patterns, sun and shade exposure, existing vegetation, utility locations, HOA requirements, and how the homeowner actually uses — or wants to use — the space. That first site walk shapes every decision that follows.
Design Drawing & Plant Plan
LP produces a scaled site plan showing planting beds, lawn areas, hardscape interfaces, irrigation zones, and lighting locations. Accompanying the plan is a full plant palette selected specifically for North Idaho's USDA Zone 5b–6a conditions — no plants that look good on paper but die after the first hard winter.
Native & Regional Plant Selection
LP designs with cold-hardy Idaho-native and regionally-adapted species that thrive through North Idaho's hard winters and dry inland summers. Native selections — serviceberry, red-osier dogwood, Idaho fescue, bitterbrush — establish faster, require less irrigation once rooted, and support local pollinators.
Grading & Drainage Integration
Every LP landscape design accounts for water movement. Positive grade away from structures, swale locations, downspout management, and French drain tie-ins are planned before planting begins. Getting drainage right in the design phase is far less expensive than correcting a ponding problem after installation.
Irrigation Design & Tie-In
LP coordinates the landscape design with irrigation layout — plant water requirements drive zone groupings, drip versus spray placement, and controller programming. A lawn zone, a shrub bed zone, and a perennial zone all have different requirements. Designing them together avoids the chronic overwatering that kills more North Idaho landscapes than drought does.
Phased Installation Planning
Large properties benefit from a phased approach. LP can design the complete outdoor space and install in priority phases aligned with the client's budget and timeline. Phase one might be the front entry and primary patio. Phase two, the rear bed areas and privacy plantings. The plan exists in full from day one — installation simply follows it.
