Existing Surface Removal & Subgrade Prep
LP excavates existing turf or soil to a depth that accommodates the aggregate base and turf product. Proper subgrade preparation is the single most important factor in synthetic turf longevity — LP grades the subgrade with positive drainage pitch (minimum 1.5%) to ensure water exits the system and never pools under the turf.
Crushed Aggregate Base Installation
A compacted crushed aggregate base (typically 3–4 inches) provides the drainage capacity and stable surface that synthetic turf requires. LP uses a decomposed granite or Class 6 aggregate base, compacted in lifts with a plate compactor, to create a firm, stable surface that won't settle unevenly after installation.
Weed Barrier & Nailer Board
LP installs commercial-grade weed barrier fabric over the compacted base before turf placement, and sets pressure-treated nailer boards or bender board edging at all perimeter boundaries. Edging determines the finished edge quality of the installation — it must be straight, secure, and at the correct height for the turf product being used.
Turf Selection — Pile Height, Blade Shape & Infill
LP guides clients through the turf product selection: pile height (1.5" for putting greens to 3.5" for lawn replacement), blade shape (S-curve or C-shape for resilience), and infill type (silica sand for drainage, crumb rubber or TPE for cushioning, Durafill for pet applications). The right combination depends on the use case.
Seam and Pattern Placement
Where multiple rolls of turf are needed, seam placement determines whether seams are visible under normal viewing angles. LP plans roll direction, seam locations, and blade orientation so all grass fibers run the same direction — producing a uniform, realistic appearance with invisible seams.
Pet Area & Play Surface Installations
LP installs synthetic turf specifically designed for pet runs and children's play areas: antimicrobial infill products, enhanced drainage bases (perforated sub-base systems), and higher-durability face weights rated for heavy use. Pet turf applications include deodorizing infill options that reduce odor between rinse cycles.
