Poured Concrete Flatwork
Concrete is only as good
as what's underneath it.
Every failed concrete slab in North Idaho has the same story: a surface poured on an inadequate base. Post Falls and CDA soils are frequently clay-heavy — expansive, frost-susceptible, and unforgiving. Concrete over unexcavated clay will heave, crack, and settle in the first three winters.
LP handles excavation and concrete under one contract. The base work isn't an afterthought — it's the scope that determines whether the pour survives Idaho conditions. We've completed hundreds of concrete flatwork projects across Post Falls, CDA, and Kootenai County since 2005.
Durable, cost-effective, and low-maintenance
when built on the right base.
Cost-Effective Per Square Foot
Poured concrete delivers the lowest cost per square foot of any hard surface patio option — typically $8–$16 per sq ft for broom finish, $14–$22 for exposed aggregate. When budget is the primary constraint and durability is the goal, a properly installed concrete slab is the right answer.
Low Maintenance Surface
Poured concrete requires less maintenance than paver systems — no joint sand replenishment, no individual unit leveling. Sealed concrete protects against staining and spalling. The primary maintenance item is periodic re-sealing (every 2–4 years) to maintain stain resistance and appearance.
Engineered for Vehicle Loads
Properly poured concrete with appropriate thickness and reinforcement handles vehicle loads that paver systems may not. Garage aprons, equipment pads, and service areas benefit from concrete's monolithic rigidity when heavy equipment or vehicles are regularly present.
Full-Scope LP Advantage
LP handles sub-base excavation, compaction, and concrete installation under one contract. No coordination between separate excavation and concrete subcontractors. One point of accountability from the first dig through the finished pour — only possible because LP owns both capabilities in-house.
Every finish type, every application.
Broom-Finish Flatwork
Standard broom finish concrete is the most common residential patio and sidewalk surface in North Idaho — clean, cost-effective, and slip-resistant from the light texture. LP specifies proper slab thickness (4" minimum for pedestrian, 6" for vehicle loads), rebar or wire mesh reinforcement, and proper sub-base preparation.
Exposed Aggregate Concrete
Exposed aggregate surfaces reveal the pebble, crushed rock, or decorative stone embedded in the concrete mix — creating a textured, non-slip surface with more visual interest than a flat broom finish. The aggregate type determines the final appearance; local river rock aggregates complement North Idaho's natural palette.
Stamped Concrete
Textured stamps applied to freshly poured concrete imprint patterns that mimic stone, flagstone, brick, or wood plank. Color hardeners and release agents add depth and tone variation. Stamped concrete delivers a decorative appearance at lower cost than natural stone, though it requires a sealed finish and periodic resealing to maintain appearance.
Control Joints & Reinforcement
Saw-cut control joints at specified intervals allow the slab to crack along engineered lines rather than random paths. Combined with proper rebar or wire mesh, LP's flatwork is designed to manage concrete's natural expansion and contraction — Idaho's temperature swings from sub-zero winters to 100°F summers demand this be engineered correctly.
Garage Aprons & Pad Extensions
Concrete pours for garage aprons, pad extensions, equipment pads, and utility slabs. Structural pours designed for vehicle and equipment loads, with appropriate thickness and reinforcement for the application. A critical detail in North Idaho: proper drainage slope (minimum 1.5% away from structure) to prevent ice formation at garage entries.
Sub-Base Prep & Excavation
Because LP owns excavation equipment and hardscape crews, we handle the full scope from sub-base excavation through finished pour. Proper concrete requires a stable, compacted sub-base — soft or wet native soils will cause slab settlement regardless of the pour quality. LP doesn't skip the base work.
Trusted by North Idaho homeowners
for concrete that lasts.
"LP poured our garage apron and patio extension last summer. The exposed aggregate finish looks great and hasn't cracked despite our harsh winters. They handled everything from excavation to finish - no subcontractors. Highly recommend for anyone in North Idaho."- Sarah M., Post Falls
"We needed a concrete slab for our hot tub pad. LP excavated the proper base and poured a reinforced 6-inch slab. It's been rock solid through two winters. Their attention to drainage and reinforcement shows they understand Idaho conditions."- Mike R., Coeur d'Alene
"The stamped concrete patio LP installed has held up beautifully. They did the full scope - excavation, base prep, and pour. The broom finish walkway they added is perfect for our hillside property. Worth every penny."- Jennifer L., Hayden
"LP's concrete work is top-notch. They poured our driveway apron and equipment pad. The control joints and reinforcement are properly done - no random cracking. Family-owned business you can trust in North Idaho."- Tom K., Spirit Lake
