Irregular Flagstone Patios
Natural irregular flagstone — each piece uniquely shaped — is fitted together like a puzzle to create a patio surface with an organic, one-of-a-kind character. Joints are planted with groundcover, filled with decomposed granite, or mortared depending on the aesthetic goal and base specification.
Cut & Dimensional Stone
Precision-cut dimensional stone (12×12, 16×16, 18×18, and custom formats) laid in regular or ashlar patterns. Cleaner lines than irregular flagstone, but retains the authentic texture and color variation of natural stone. Ideal for contemporary or craftsman-style homes.
Basalt & Lava Rock
Idaho and Pacific Northwest basalt is abundant, regionally authentic, and has a deep charcoal-to-blue-gray color that pairs well with North Idaho's landscape palette. LP sources local basalt for patios, steps, and decorative accents — a distinctly North Idaho material choice.
Natural Stone Steps & Stairways
Large-format stone steps cut from bluestone, granite, or basalt create a permanent, architectural stairway that anchors a slope or connects grade changes. LP's excavation capability allows us to properly prepare the grade for step installation — the foundation that determines whether steps stay level for decades.
Dry-Laid Systems
Flagstone set on a compacted gravel and sand base without mortar — allowing for frost movement without cracking. The preferred method for most residential patio applications in North Idaho's freeze-thaw climate. LP specifies base depth based on site soils and drainage.
Mortar-Set Applications
Mortar-set flagstone over a concrete base creates a rigid, monolithic surface appropriate for covered areas, interior/exterior transitions, and applications where joint stability is critical. Requires a properly engineered concrete sub-base. Less common in exposed Idaho applications due to freeze-thaw cracking risk without proper base design.
